Thank you so much. I sprayed the doll's face with the sealer, a good coat and then when it was completely dry I used a cheap craft varnish I had... American DuraClear gloss varnish... and I have success... the tackiness is gone!! Yeah, you saved my work and I've so very grateful to you!! (If not, spray one more time.)
Then I used the Delta varnish.
Some have told me they put 5-6 coats of flat on their doll heads before painting- and seemed to have no issues with the Liquitex Gloss.
Since I have not actually done that yet- I cannot tell you for sure that it makes a difference.
I am so happy to hear that you've had success painting your dolls :)PBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02440590854459336735noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-531200547782479389.post-8185950662982080912014-09-15T07:28:17.686-07:002014-09-15T07:28:17.686-07:00Thank you... do I spray the MSC right over the tac...Thank you... do I spray the MSC right over the tacky Liquitex or do I need to remove it? How would I remove it... it is water soluble, but I'm afraid. I can't begin to tell you how much it helps that you've not only given me some practice advice but you've also, given me hope that my work isn't spoiled... I've only done 5 dolls and I really enjoy it and they came out very well... I take my time and it's a bit nerve wrecking for me... so afraid to make mistakes... and then I see these pretty faces and I did that... just can't bare to have to start over. Anyway, thank you so much for answering... I thought I was taking a gamble. You've really helped and I can relax a bit now... :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-531200547782479389.post-78494625107787746932014-09-15T06:47:06.021-07:002014-09-15T06:47:06.021-07:00You didn't do anything wrong. I think the formula has changed.
To correct this problem on my one doll, I sprayed the Mister Super Clear Flat (you can use Testors Flat) on her face - I did 2 coats an hour apart. The next day I applied Delta Gloss varnish. Do not put too much on- just as much as you need to cover. If you want more depth- wait for the next day to apply another coat. It needs to cure.
Delta makes craft paints- and while I don't use them on my dolls, the clear coat gloss varnish seems to work just fine.
It may go without saying, but do not put your doll in the sun to dry. I hope this helps.PBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02440590854459336735noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-531200547782479389.post-17244683592784307372014-09-15T00:00:35.144-07:002014-09-15T00:00:35.144-07:00I know this is an old post but I do hope you can h...I know this is an old post but I do hope you can help me... I've had great success painting monster high dolls following all the steps suggested... once I've put the final coat of sealer on the dolls face I've used liquitex gloss for the lips and eyes... BUT it's been almost a week and the eyes and lips are still tacky to the touch!! What did I do wrong... and how might I correct it? My faces came out great except for this one kinda major problem... Did you use acetone to clean the head?

If the paint is not dry, I would suggest you remove the paint and try it again with light layers- checking to see if it is dry before applying another coat.

If it does not dry on that first coat, the problem may be that they have changed the formula for the paint. It may be reacting with the chemicals that keep the vinyl soft and supple.
If that is the case, then you will have to sponge paint the face with acrylic white. Again, in thin layers.

After it is dry, spray with Mr Super Clear flat or Testors Flat clear spray.

Hope this helps :)PBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02440590854459336735noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-531200547782479389.post-71559485901480875892013-04-26T18:56:28.256-07:002013-04-26T18:56:28.256-07:00Thank you for this tutorial, you are awesome for s...Thank you for this tutorial, you are awesome for sharing!
